Session Preparation Steps

  • Sit in a relaxed position.
  • Avoid VNS if tired or irritable.

Connecting the Electrode

  • Attach the electrode to the TENS unit lead-wire connectors, one channel only.
  • Hold connectors when disconnecting, and avoid pulling wires.
  • Keep the electrode and TENS unit dry.

TENS Unit Programming

  • Mode Normal continuous signal.
  • Pulse width 200 µs.
  • Pulse frequency 10–30 Hz, adjust weekly if desired.
  • Duration: Start 1–2 min twice daily, max 10 min.
  • Intensity: Gradually increase until just below muscle twitch.

  • The left side of the neck is parallel to the trachea.
  • Place over the pulse point with fingertips.
  • Do not use the right side,

Precautions and Safety Notes

Avoid if you have pacemakers, defibrillators, bradycardia, or congestive heart failure.
